About Erika Mackinnon

Erika MacKinnon has had a successful career in medical sales over the last five years. Her strong skill sets in business development, strategy, revenue and maximization, market research and analysis, sales forecasting, new product pitches and presentations, account management, and client relationship management have helped Erika build a thriving career.

Since 2020, Erika has worked in medical device sales with a focus on Spine. She is currently a Spine Specialist/Sales Associate working in the operating room daily.

Erika’s Foray Into the Medical Sales Field

After successfully completing an intensive 440-hour postgraduate course at Medical Sales College in Sarasota, Florida, Erika received her Spine, Orthopedic Reconstruction, and Trauma Certification. She developed a strong baseline of professional skills in regenerative medicine, dynamic consultative selling, orthopedic reconstruction, trauma and spine devices, and business development tactics, positioning her to drive territory growth, expand her customer base, and secure new business.

She gained a comprehensive understanding of products and procedures encompassing spine, biologics, sports medicine, orthopedic reconstruction, and trauma, and gained skills in communicating with diverse audiences. Erika also developed a strong foundation of knowledge involving anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics, ortho biologics, and medical terminology. In addition, she became adept at operating room protocols and effectively navigating hospital call points, allowing for a detailed understanding of provider needs and how to address product benefits.

Erika was adept at conversations related to pathologies, approaches, and solutions that medical devices, implants, and hardware may offer.

While obtaining her Certification, Erika began working as a Sales Associate at SS Fusion Medicain Tampa, Florida. Her responsibilities included assisting with the coverage of accounts within specific territories, arranging appointments with physicians and medical teams, and building and maintaining working relationships with both medical and administrative staff.

Her Role at Globus Medical, Memphis, Tennessee

After a year with SS Fusion, Erika MacKinnon accepted a position with Globus Medical as a Sales Associate, where she has worked for the past four years. At Globus Medical, Erika is a high-potential sales leader who delivers on organizational growth goals, develops strong client relationships, manages provider relations, expands market share, and upsells clients on solutions.

She possesses extensive knowledge of the operating room and is experienced in covering a wide range of procedures, including ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion), PCF (Posterior Cervical Fusion), TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion), PLIF (Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion), ALIF (Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion), Laterals (lateral lumbar interbody fusion), and many other deformity procedures.

Erika’s Undergraduate Education and Previous Career Experience

Born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, Erika is a first-generation American on her father’s side. She graduated in 2016 from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology.

After graduating, Erika served as a Chief Legislative Intern for the Florida Senate, where she drafted and edited briefings and talking points, tracked legislation, and ensured proposed legislation had the necessary support. She also met with constituents, non-profit agencies, and lobbyists to discuss pending legislative issues. She later became a junior lobbyist and political fundraiser.

Erika also worked as a Business Development Analyst at GSSP in Stamford, Connecticut, performing policy analysis, providing strategic counsel regarding potential sales and acquisitions, managing the logistics of major real estate transactions and tax equity transactions, and providing administrative support to the company’s Vice President of Business Development.

She later worked as Deputy Finance Director at The O’Rourke Group, where she was responsible for building relationships with government officials, constituents, and prominent members of society to secure funding. Erika also conducted client or market surveys to obtain information about potential donors. She was also skilled at contacting businesses and private individuals to solicit contributions or services for political and charitable causes and effectively networked with clients, increasing her portfolio size and revenue.

After the O’Rourke Group, she joined SS Fusion.

In addition to obtaining her Spine, Orthopedic Reconstruction & Trauma Certification, Erika also holds various certifications, including AdvaMed Code of Ethics Certification, Aseptic Technique and Infection Control Bloodborne Pathogens Certification, Electrical Safety Certification, Fire Safety Certification, HIPAA Certification, National Patient Safety Certification, and Protocol Certification.

An Eye for Interior Design

Since Erika MacKinnon was young, she has always had a passion and an eye for interior design. When she purchased her new home a few years ago, she took the plunge and turned an empty modern farmhouse into a vintage home with a fresh, modern take. She loves antique shopping and transforming past-loved belongings into a modern twist. Her talent lies in blending traditional, modern, and vintage aesthetics to create functional and visually appealing spaces.

Although interior design is a hobby for now, Erika is considering making it a career in the future.

A Foodie, Too

As a mom of two, Erika spends a lot of time in the kitchen. She is known among her family and friends for her cooking and for turning food into a memorable, visual, and appetizing experience.

Supporting Causes Close to Her Heart

Erika gives generously to the Salvation Army, helping individuals and families in need and the Humane Society to stop animal cruelty.
